“But they didn’t want the drug to be banned,” said a former drugstore worker who has tried to sell Viagra in Adelaide for $30 a pill.
Dr Mark Taylor, a former doctor and head of the Adelaide sexual health clinic, said he didn’t want to be caught selling the drug.
The drug, which is made by Pfizer Inc., had been in use for years and was advertised to be “the first in a new class of treatments”.
But the drug’s makers – including Viagra maker Pfizer Inc., the maker of the popular erectile dysfunction drug Levitra and Sanofi-avarin – aren’t backing it.
In an interview with ABC’s “Today,” Taylor said the company wanted to keep the drug out of the hands of people and that he believed it would be safe for consumers.
“They’re trying to protect the public from the risks of selling the drug that they’re trying to protect from people,” he said.

Taylor said he would take a call from people to say they would be able to get Viagra for about $30. Taylor also said he would give the drug a 3-month supply to people who can’t afford it.
He said he’s been trying to sell it online for as long as he can remember and still don’t see it as a safe treatment.
“I’m trying to sell it because I want people to know I’m not a doctor. I don’t know how to sell it,” he said.
Taylor said he would also be able to get it for $70 a pill if it’s not for the fact it’s so effective.
He said the drug has to be sold at a more affordable price and that people with serious heart problems should be careful about what they buy.
“It’s not the first time we’ve come across it as a safe treatment for something that’s potentially serious, and it’s not the last,” he said.
“But it’s not the last, it’s the first time, it’s not the next generation.”
Viagra, sold by Pfizer, and Levitra, by Sanofi, have been around for years.But some have questioned why the drug hasn’t been banned for sale.
Last year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported that erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra had been linked to death.

But Sanofi’s drug company, Sanofi Aventis, said it has no intention of allowing sales of Viagra to come to light because of concerns it was unsafe.
“The safety and efficacy of Viagra have not been established and we are not in any way recommending this product for any condition,” it said in a statement.
In 2010, Sanofi’s patent expired in France and sales of Viagra have declined slightly.
A report from the University of Britisho in Adelaide last year said it had “exceedingly low levels” of the drug in the blood.
Viagra, which has been a leading choice for men seeking to improve their sexual performance, was found to have “a low safety profile”.

In May 2011, Sanofi said it would be recalling all other drugs and other medicines sold in its drugstore and other pharmacies after the company’s warning about the drug was issued.
A similar recall of Viagra was also announced by Sanofi in November 2011.
The recall, which could be linked to the death of Taylor, is aimed at the retail pharmacy and other pharmacies in Australia, but is not authorized by Sanofi.
